Separate item counts were not kept for this file because of its nature. Maurus Deutsch was attempting to assist Dreiser in his difficulties with his Austrian publishing concerns. In the meantime, because Deutsch's English was not very good, Dreiser began having difficulty making his wishes clear with Deutsch, and the file turns into a struggle with Deutsch as well as the Austrian publishers through several who were trying to interpret for Dreiser. This file contains a large amount of correspondence from Ernst Basch, who was, among other things, translating Deutsch's letters for Dreiser.
